A built-in light sensor dims the display automatically at night, and increases brightness in direct sunlight.
A ten segment bargraph display shows amount of retard, and thus gives an indication of the engine's tendency to knock at any particular time. The monitor is connected to the J&S SafeGuard with a 3.5 mm stereo cable supplied in the kit. The new SafeGuard units have an onboard LED that glows in proportion to the amount of knock retard. This will assist you in setup of the SafeGuard, but the bargraph gives much more information.

The HIGH-TECH and totally unique INSTRUMENT & ALARM PANEL consisting of ENGINE TEMPERATURE, OIL PRESSURE, VOLTMETER, and TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE GAUGES in a 4-gauge panel. A 3-gauge panel (no transmission temperature gauge) is available for cars / light duty applications).
The DIGI-PANEL provides the best of both analog (needle) gauges and idiot lights with the added safety of BUILT-IN ALARMS to help prevent costly engine and transmission damage or on-the-road breakdowns. An optional ENGINE-KILL feature adds further protection for when an engine is operating unattended.
Using a format of MULTI-COLOR LEDs (light emitting diodes), the solid state moving dots of light replace the needles of ordinary gauges to show the driver accurate values of various functions. When the readings are at safe values, the dots are GREEN; when questionable, they become YELLOW; and when the readings hit critical levels, the dots become RED + ALARMS. The AUDIO ALARM can be switched off after the driver has been alerted if desired. If the OPTIONAL ENGINE-KILL (designed for rigs left running unattended) switch is activated , approximately 30 seconds after any alarm condition occurs (except for low battery voltage), the engine is automatically shut down.
Each gauge consists of 10LEDs which are designed to overlap slightly to increase resolution and prevent loss of indication that would occur if the reading were between dots.
The DIGI-PANEL is constructed of solid-state components and utilizes aerospace quality CMOS integrated circuits for ultra-high reliability. The high-speed solid-state engine-temperature sensor typically measures engine temperature at the thermostat housing. The principal advantage of this approach occurs during sudden coolant loss, most often due to a ruptured hose. Normal coolant sensors cannot then function properly and engine seizure usually occurs. The possibility is enhanced that the solid-state sensor mounted on the thermostat housing will sense the temperature rise prior to engine destruction.
Extremely low power consumption- typically 0.18 amps. Fully protected from erroneous hook-up. Shock and vibration have no effect. Suitable for many custom applications. And it's made in the U.S.A.

MSD Engine Knock Alert - signals you to engine knock with a series of lights and an audible beep. It has a sensitivity adjustment that lets you tune it to the knocking characteristics of your coach. This device installs easily with only 3 wires to be connected.
One of an engines worst enemies is detonation. It can occur at any time and if left uncontrolled, severe engine damage may result. Sometimes however, the pinging noise may be hard to hear or recognize due to well insulated interiors, engine compartments or excessive road noise. The MSD Engine Knock Alert listens to what's going on in the engine for you. When detonation occurs, it relays this information to you in two forms; a warning light and an audible beep. An extremely sensitive Knock Sensor is used to ''listen'' to the engine. This sensor is screwed into one of the engine block's drains or access holes (an adapter mount is also supplied). Once in place, the sensor relays excessive detonation noise to the Knock Alert. Since all engines make noise, some more than others, MSD added a sensitivity adjustment to the Alert. This adjustment allows you to ''tune'' the Alert to match your engine's characteristics. The Knock Alert is easy to install and features matching Weathertight connectors for firm connections. It will work on 4, 6 and 8-cylinder engines with 12 volt electrical systems and comes complete with the sensor, adapter and controller.

Ignition Timing Control - The dash mounted ignition timing control is the perfect complement to the knock sensor because it allows you to retard or advance the ignition timing without leaving your seat. Going over large hills is easy now. As you ascend the knock alert will indicate that the engine is knocking. You can simply reach over and retard the timing. After you reach the crest and descend the hill, you can advance your timing for more power and better fuel economy. MSD Timing Controls are designed so engines with locked out timing or crank triggers can take advantage of an ignition curve. The weights and springs inside your existing distributor are removed and the mechanical advance is locked out so the timing is controlled entirely by the MSD Timing Control. By controlling the ignition electronically, the timing curves can be set faster, more accurately, and with more adjustablility than mechanical advances. The Timing Controls provide reliable operation throughout the RPM range. MSD Adjustable Timing Control The MSD Adjustable Timing Control puts you in control of your ignition timing - from the drivers's seat! A dash mounted control knob allows you to adjust the ignition timing to compensate for changes in altitude, low octane gas, or heavy loads. For cars driven every day but raced occasionally on the weekends, this control is perfect. Increased fuel mileage and performance are just some of the benefits as the ignition timing can be advanced or retarded to prevent engine detonation. The control knob mounts to the dash board for easy and accurate timing adjustments up to 15°. The Control can be used on 4, 6 and 8-cylinder engines.
